On this week and every week, we have an opportunity to shake the hand of a police officer, thank them for their service, and show our support. Last week I had the honor if sitting in with Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Pearce. He is my hero.
It’s an unlikely title from Officer Pearce’s perspective. Two years ago when he was gunned down in an ambush answering a call, it was just another call, and all in the line of duty. It’s what he signed up for. After learning that he was a firefighter BEFORE returning to his hometown of Fort Worth years ago to join the FWPD, it is clear to me this is a man who was born to serve, give, help, and protect.

All this week we’ll be celebrating and honoring our North Texas Police Officers, stopping by stations and delivering delicious Dunkin’ Donuts (wink wink nod nod-it’s ok, THEY’RE ok with the not so subtle treat) and featuring audio from my ride-along with Officer Pearce on the streets of Fort Worth last week.
This week, and any time, when you see an officer, take a moment to say hello to them, shake their hand, and THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE. It will only make their day that much easier to know they have our support.
If you haven’t had a chance to view the documentary created detailing the story of Officer Matt Pearce, take a break to see it below. It is a real story about a real hero.
