A couple of years ago when I got the awesome opportunity to be a judge for the Big Tex Choice Awards, I was amazed at the crowd that showed up to not only be the first to taste all the fried food finalists…but buy those tickets to be there, knowing what a great cause it was contributing to. Every year the State Fair raises money to fund their scholarship program for Texas students…and this is just one of the (more delicious) events!
Remember, the State Fair selects one person in attendance every year to JOIN the judge’s panel from all the attendees for the event, so if you’re holding tickets to the sold-out event, the last judge could be YOU!
The 15th Annual Big Tex® Choice Awards will take place on Sunday, August 25 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic Tower Building at Fair Park. The 2019 Big Tex Choice Awards is presented by Metro by T-Mobile and will once again give Fair fans the chance to taste the top 10 finalists, with five savory and five sweet dishes making the cut this year. This annual competition doubles as a fundraising event for the Big Tex Scholarship Program, which provides college scholarships for students throughout the Lone Star State.
Each year, State Fair concessionaires cook up tasty and unique foods for a chance to become one of the finalists in the annual Big Tex Choice Awards food competition. On Sunday, August 25, the finalists will compete for the titles of “Best Taste – Savory,” “Best Taste – Sweet,” and “Most Creative” at this year’s State Fair of Texas.
Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
The event takes place at the Tower Building in Fair Park: 3809 Grand Avenue. Parking will be at Gate 3, off Parry Avenue and Washington Street. Drive down to the parking lot across from the Hall of State (where the Chevrolet Main Stage will sit during the Fair).
All 10 finalists, the event emcees, and celebrity judges will be on-hand following the announcement, along with representatives from the State Fair of Texas.
All proceeds from the Big Tex Choice Awards ceremony will be donated to the Big Tex Scholarship Program. In 2019, the Fair awarded nearly $1.25 million in new college scholarships to students throughout the Lone Star State. Eligible recipients include graduating high school seniors from around the state of Texas who have competed in State Fair livestock events, graduating seniors from six Fair Park area DISD schools, and eligible State Fair of Texas seasonal employees or their dependents.
