After three days of rain delays, Kyle Busch earned his first win of the season by taking the checkered flag last night at Texas Motor Speedway. The “Candy Man” held off his teammate and playoff driver Martin Truex Jr. to win the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 NASCAR Cup Series race which started Sunday afternoon.
Even though Busch is out of the playoffs, his win continued the streak of winning at least one race in each of the last 16 seasons. He was also last year’s Cup Series champ who was eliminated in the “Round of 12” this season. It was also his third career Cup Series win at Texas Motor Speedway and his 57th Cup Series victory..
Behind Busch and Truex Jr., rookie Christopher Bell finished third followed by Ryan Blaney and playoff driver Alex Bowman.
This Sunday, the Cup Series moves to Martinsville Speedway for an elimination race to decide who will advance to the Championship 4 at Phoenix. Right now, Joey Logano leads the points standings followed by Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski. Below the cut line currently are Alex Bowman, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch.
