It’s Severe Weather Awareness Season! If you’re new to DFW, you may not be aware of the Severe Weather terminology. Do you know the difference between a watch and a warning? Knowing the difference will help you decide what actions you should take (if any) during hazardous weather.
A watch means severe weather is possible and conditions are favorable, requiring you to be prepared and stay informed. A warning means severe weather is occurring or imminent, requiring immediate action to seek shelter
Key Differences:
- Watch (Be Prepared): Conditions are right for severe weather (tornadoes, floods, thunderstorms) to develop in your area. It is time to review your safety plan and stay tuned to local news or NOAA weather radio.
- Warning (Take Action): Dangerous, severe weather has been detected by radar or spotted by professionals
. Take immediate safety measures, such as going to a designated shelter.
