According to the marketing group NPD, video game console spending in the U.S. is up 27 percent from last year, up to $1.9 billion. The World Health Organization plans to include Gaming Disorder in its latest publication of The International Classification of Diseases. Adding “gaming disorder” to the list means it will be recognized by doctors and insurance companies. What does that mean? Defined as “persistent or recurrent” behavior pattern and impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.”
