A proposed bill in the Texas House would reimburse some teachers for purchases made using personal money for classroom expenses. House Bill 54 would reimburse up to $600 back for classroom supplies and other school-related purchases. Teachers often pay out of their own pockets for supplies for their students and class projects.
A lot of discussion about education and teachers at the capitol today. If you're a teacher, how much do you think you spend out-of-pocket on supplies for your classroom?

The bill, b would apply to people who teach sixth grade and below.
“A school district shall reimburse each classroom teacher employed by the district who teaches students enrolled at or below the sixth grade level up to $600 per school year for the cost of classroom supplies purchased by the teacher with the teacher’s personal money for the benefit of those students,” HB 54 reads.
The funding for the reimbursements were initially to be pulled from the state’s Rainy Day Fund, which would add up to approximately $107.3 million if all eligible teachers used all $600. The bill would take effect for the 2017-2018 school year if passed through both the House and Senate.
