Dwight Yoakam, Shooter Jennings, Jackson Browne, Marshall Crenshaw, and Fountains of Wayne were among the artists who honored the late singer-songwriter Warren Zevon at the United Theater in Los Angeles on Friday night (October 24). The tribute concert, titled Meet Me in L.A.: The Songs of Warren Zevon, was presented by Wild Honey Foundation and the Zevon Family. The event featured performances of classic Zevon tunes like Yoakam’s tender rendition of “Carmelita,” and Browne’s aching version of “Life’ll Kill Ya,” while Crenshaw tackled “Sentimental Hygiene,” and the recently reunited Fountains of Wayne covered “Poor Poor Pitiful Me.” The event coincides with Zevon’s upcoming posthumous induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a receipient of the Musical Influence Award, with his son, Jordan, telling Rolling Stone of the honor, “There’s this undercurrent of his influence in a lot of musicians and a lot of people’s lives.” (Rolling Stone)
